2024 Summer Internship Opportunities

Broadcast Producer/Director Internship
Description:
Michigan Elite Hockey, an amateur summer league for the best high school and junior prospects in the midwest, is seeking a broadcast producer (intern) for the 2024 summer season. The season runs from May through early August. This internship is offered for school credit and successful applicants would begin near the season’s start (some financial compensation may be available). The intern(s) in this position will produce broadcasts for all Michigan Elite Hockey games, allowing the intern a chance to gain hockey broadcast experience and work in a learning environment, helping to enable career advancement. The intern in this position will produce all aspects of the broadcast production and may have on-air opportunities. The person(s) will also have other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the producer for all Michigan Elite Hockey broadcasts helping to get the crew on the air, off the air, and doing everything in between from playing commercial breaks to updating graphics and/or doing other duties as assigned
- Assist with the operation of broadcast equipment, running commercials, and more
- Shoot, edit, and upload player and coach interviews and other web content to the team’s social media and website, as well as edit interviews for use on the air (can have interview opportunities)
- Help broadcasters with as needed
- Edit and produce commercials if needed for sponsors
- Assist in the set-up and tear-down of the booth
- Adequately prepare for broadcasts prior to arrival at the arena
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Experience Directing live sports preferred
- Knowledge of hockey & sports production preferred
- Pursuing a bachelor’s degree in a field of communications, PR, marketing, or a related field
- Getting school credit for the internship (loose)
- Passion for sports, broadcasting
- A strong work ethic coupled with the ability to work with others
- Energy to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environment
- Must be available to work from the beginning of May to at least near the end of the season
- Self-starter, proactive, and highly motivated
- Have great communication and interpersonal skills, along with a positive and energetic personality
- Learn quickly and work well under pressure
- Adobe Creative Suite experience
- Proficient understanding of broadcast equipment, streaming devices
- Positive attitude and willingness to go the extra mile
- Must be currently living or have pre-arranged accommodations in or near the Brighton, MI area
- Able to assume other responsibilities as required

Multimedia/Graphic Design Internship
Description:
Michigan Elite Hockey, an amateur summer league for the best high school and junior prospects in the midwest, is seeking multiple individuals for multimedia internships for the 2024 summer season. The season runs from May through early August. This internship is offered for school credit and successful applicants would begin near the season’s start (some financial compensation may be available). The multimedia interns will complete tasks of a photography and graphic design nature and will lend their hand in our in-game social media strategy. This individual will assist with games by capturing and editing photos and performing basic graphic design tasks. The multimedia internship is a perfect fit for those looking to work in the sports industry and provides students with valuable hands-on behind-the-scenes experience in a fast-paced environment. The person(s) will also have other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Operate DSLR cameras (owning your own equipment is preferred but not mandatory)
- Capture images of Game Action (Warmups, Intros, In-Game, Celebrations, etc.)
Fans (Groups, Celebrations, etc.), Team Photos, Promotional Photos
- Assist with all assigned shoots and editing
- Utilize Adobe Creative Cloud/Suite
- Develop ideas for graphic elements or promotions to be used during the season
- Organize and archive daily game photos
- Perform basic graphic design duties
- Create and update gameday social media graphics
- Create social media and video broadcast advertisements
- Update/create new player headshot images for the website and recruiting guides
- Works home games, events, and daytime office hours if necessary
- Occasionally required to lift heavy loads and haul production gear
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Graphic Design, Photography, Multimedia, Sports Management or a related field preferred but not required
- Technical experience in photography and editing and/or experience in Adobe Creative Cloud/Suite
- Owns own camera equipment preferred but not mandatory
- Experience in Microsoft Office
- Receiving school credit for the internship (loose)
- Passion for sports and general knowledge of hockey preferred
- Energy to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environment
- Must be currently living or have pre-arranged accommodations in or near the Brighton, MI area
- Able to assume other responsibilities as required
- Must be available to work from the beginning of the May to at least near the end of the season
- Ability to handle numerous projects & meet deadlines
- Some experience in lighting and shoot setup is a plus

Media Relations Internship
Description:
Michigan Elite Hockey, an amateur summer league for the best high school and junior prospects in the midwest, is seeking media relations interns for the 2024 summer season. The season runs from May through early August. This internship is offered for school credit and successful applicants would begin near the season’s start (some financial compensation may be available). The intern(s) in this position will produce broadcasts for all Michigan Elite Hockey games, allowing the intern a chance to gain hockey media relations experience and to work in a learning environment, helping to enable career advancement. The intern(s) in this position will assist in any and all media relations efforts during the games and throughout the season. The person(s) will also have other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as a media relations assistant to the broadcasters, helping to compile game notes, line charts, stat packs, and game programs, write press releases and assist with any needs of local and national media coverage.
- Conceptualize, write, and edit engaging brand messages, headlines, body copy, and specifics for print, digital, emails, newsletters, web copy, features, and press releases.
- Assist the social media team with any content needed.
- Help broadcasters as needed.
- Operate scoreboard or serve as official scorer if needed.

Equipment Manager Internship
Description:
Michigan Elite Hockey, an amateur summer league for the best high school and junior prospects in the midwest, is seeking multiple individuals for equipment manager internships for the 2024 summer season. The season runs from May through early August. This internship is offered for school credit and successful applicants would begin near the season’s start (some financial compensation may be available). The equipment manager interns will be exposed to all aspects of equipment management in hockey and receive hands-on training for future career aspirations in the field. The equipment manager intern is a perfect fit for those looking to work in the sports industry and provides students with valuable hands-on behind-the-scenes experience in a fast-paced environment. The person(s) will also have other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Help set up locker rooms and benches for games
- Assist with laundry and locker room organization.
- Maintenance of equipment during the game
- Handle inventory of supplies (tape, snacks, drinks, towels, etc.)
- Works home games, events, and daytime office hours if necessary
- Assist coaches when necessary pre-game, in-game and post-game
- Occasionally required to lift heavy loads and haul production gear
Desired Skills/Qualifications:
- Pursuing a degree in Sports Management or a related field is preferred but not required
- Receiving school credit for the internship (loose)
- Passion for sports and general knowledge of hockey preferred
- Priority will be given to people with a hockey equipment background
- Energy to thrive in a fast-paced, sometimes unpredictable environment
- Must be currently living or have pre-arranged accommodations in or near the Brighton, MI area
- Must be available to work from the beginning (early-mid May) to the end of the season (early August)
- Able to assume other responsibilities as required
